NTFS Access / Support

Get connected. Transfer with confidence.

Start in four steps

  1. Choose a Mac folder

Select Choose Folder in the left pane. Use the system picker to allow access only to the location you need. Recent locations can be forgotten in Settings.

  2. Connect an NTFS drive

Connect your drive and select Connect NTFS Drive. In the App Store edition, follow the instructions to enable the NTFS Access file-system extension in System Settings, then choose the mounted NTFS folder. APFS and exFAT drives can be used directly in Finder.

  3. Check the access mode

Read-only allows browsing and copying to your Mac. Writing requires the drive to be mounted writable. Select files and use Copy to Drive or Copy to Mac. Choose how existing names are handled: stop, skip or keep both.

  4. Finish and eject

Wait for copying and verification to finish. Stop After This File waits for the current item. Disconnect the app session if needed, then eject the drive in Finder before unplugging it. Disconnecting a folder does not eject the physical drive.

Common questions

My drive does not appear

Check the cable and power, then see whether Disk Utility lists the drive. Confirm the volume is NTFS. Check the extension status in the app’s connection window. Close other disk tools and reconnect normally; do not force-unmount a busy drive.

Why is writing unavailable?

The selected location may be read-only, lack folder permission or be mounted by the system’s read-only NTFS driver. Check extension activation and reconnect. A hibernated or inconsistent Windows volume may need a Windows disk check and a full shutdown. This app does not force repairs.

The copy failed or ran out of space

Check free space on both the destination and the Mac’s Recovery storage. Keep the source until verification succeeds. If a copy fails, inspect the transfer history and destination before retrying; a disconnect or power failure can leave incomplete data.

Where are moved or deleted originals?

Mac items sent to Recovery can be restored from the sidebar. Restoring never overwrites an existing item. The app does not automatically empty Recovery. NTFS-side deletion is permanent and has a confirmation step; it has no app undo or Recycle Bin.

What file features are supported?

The current implementation focuses on ordinary files and folders. Reparse points, symbolic links, encrypted files and special files are unsupported. It does not promise to preserve all macOS extended attributes, ACLs, resource forks or NTFS metadata. Renames are not guaranteed atomic during power loss.
